Deer Hunters Wanted.

Jul 15, 2017

The deer drag of a tracker can last for hours. Trackers venture deep into the big woods, on the trail of a mature buck, wherever the track may roam.  By necessity, trackers become some of the most skilled navigational woodsmen on the planet. The ones that don't become skilled with a compass and TOPO map, never came home.  Joe DiNitto is a deer tracker and hunts the Adirondacks of New York.   He has been tracking big bucks on snow for 30 years now, and he doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon.  Joe is patient and waits for those snow days before stepping into the woods. This style of hunting doesn't require scouting, scent control, playing the wind, tree stands, or moon phases, but it does require snow, a compass, a flashlight, and preferably a GPS.  Joe says the first step to shooting a big mature buck using this method is finding the "Holy ______" buck track.  From there, it is a game of pursuit and persistence and a pure disbelief in the word "can't".  Joe shares numerous stories in this interview and details what is important and what is not.
